Man, 25, dies after pinned by lorry

Twenty-five-year-old Mervin Williams is now dead after he lost control of the lorry he was driving, which turned turtle causing him to be pinned underneath.

The incident occurred on about 15:00hrs Friday on the Linden to Mabura Road, Region Ten.

Williams was driving motor lorry, GYY 815 owned by Rohit Persaud of Industry, East Coast Demerara. He was accompanied by Deon Wilson, 24 of Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke Linden Highway, who is a porter.

Police Headquarters said inquiries revealed that the lorry was heading south along the eastern lane of the Mabura Road, at an allegedly fast rate.

Upon approaching a bend, it is alleged that the lorry started to slide causing Williams to lost control.

The lorry then turned turtle and Williams was pinned under the truck for some time.

Subsequently, Williams was assisted by another lorry driver who tried to retrieve his body.

Wilson, who was seated in the passenger seat received minor injuries.

Both Wilson and Williams were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex where Williams was pronounced dead. Wilson was treated and sent away.

Williams body was later taken to the Pensioner’s mortuary, awaiting a post mortem examination.
