The Government has ordered that an independent post-mortem examination be conducted on the body of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge, the girl mysteriously found dead in the Double Day Hotel pool at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
The order came on Thursday as shockwaves rippled through the nation following the discovery of the child’s body in the hotel pool.
Earlier, President Dr. Irfaan Ali asked the Commissioner of Police to assemble a special team to lead the investigation into every circumstance surrounding the death of the young girl.
The President vowed that “whatever specialized resources are required… will be provided,” and extended the support of the nation to Adrianna’s grieving family.
“Additionally I have asked that the police explain in detail every action taken from the time the matter was reported.”
Adrianna had gone to the hotel’s pool with her grandmother, Carol Xavier, and other relatives on Wednesday afternoon around 1:02 PM. When she vanished soon after, relatives and police conducted an initial search of the hotel — including the pool — but found nothing. Her body was only discovered the Thursday morning, floating in that same pool, with visible marks of violence on her face and body.
Her father is among hundreds protesting what is believed to be a mishandling of the young girl’s disappearance and a cover-up into her death.
In an interview after the girl’s body was mysteriously found in the hotel pool, the tearful father said, “I tell the media that me daughter was in there and the media was listening… (but) the Police come and chase me from here last night.”
