Suspect in burglary at Young Professional Scheme shot, apprehended by cops 

The suspect in the theft of an undisclosed amount of cash in the Young Professional Scheme at Providence, East Bank Demerara on Thursday, has been apprehended by the police following an exchange of gunfire.

The News Room understands that the suspect was apprehended at the Mocha to Diamond Access Road, EBD, in the vicinity of the police outpost in his Toyota Vitz PAG 5216. It is alleged that upon seeing the police ranks, he opened fire on them; the ranks returned fire, injuring the suspect.

He is currently hospitalised under police guard and his name has not yet been confirmed.

The News Room understands that on Thursday, May 29, the suspect jumped the fence of a resident in the community, entered his house via a window and carted off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The resident, who spoke with the News Room, said security cameras show when the suspect circled the area multiple times the day prior to the incident. On the day of the incident, he drove around twice and then parked the vehicle in front of an empty lot before jumping over the fence of the resident.

Multiple cameras in the community captured his vehicle and identified the license plate.
