In a major boost for school football in Guyana, Demerara Mutual has officially partnered with the Petra Organisation for the first time, committing to support and provide insurance coverage for all of Petra’s remaining football programmes for 2025.
The announcement was made during a special presentation ceremony held at Demerara Mutual’s Conference Room, Robb Street and Avenue of the Republic, earlier this week.
The event was chaired by Troy Peters and featured remarks from Petra Co-Director Troy Mendonca, who expressed gratitude for the new partnership.
He emphasised that this collaboration reflects shared values around youth development, education and sport.
The Petra Organisation is a well-established entity focused on coordinating school-based and grassroots football tournaments, aimed at fostering positive youth engagement through sport.
Oceola Van Doimen, Sales and Marketing Coordinator at Demerara Mutual, delivered remarks on behalf of the insurance company, expressing pride in joining Petra’s football movement and highlighting the importance of supporting initiatives that reach children and youth across the country.
The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Petra’s representative Aalyah Hinds.
Demerara Mutual’s involvement will ensure insurance coverage and general support for the following Petra-led national school tournaments scheduled for the remainder of the year:
ExxonMobil Boys and Girls U-14 Football (June-July)
Courts Optical Pee Wee U-11 Boys Football (September-October)
MVP Sport Girls U-11 Football (October-November)
Republic Bank School Football League (November-December)
KFC International Goodwill Football Tournament (December)
This first-time partnership signals a promising step towards enhanced player welfare and sustained corporate support in school football.
The Petra Organisation welcomed Demerara Mutual’s involvement, stating that the collaboration strengthens the safety net for young athletes, while laying the foundation for long-term development.
With both entities aligned in vision, this inaugural partnership is expected to leave a lasting impact on the national youth football landscape.
