La Jalousie man busted with just over 1lb ganja during Police operation

A 35-year-old resident of Gap Road, La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara, is now in police custody after he was allegedly found with more than 500 grams of cannabis during a routine traffic stop and subsequent search of his home.

The man, identified as Sayeed Salul, was the lone passenger in a Toyota Fielder Wagon motorcar that was stopped by police ranks during a traffic exercise around 12:45 hrs on Wednesday. The operation, led by an Inspector, took place in front of the Den Amstel Police Station.

According to a police report, upon stopping the vehicle, officers reportedly detected a strong scent of marijuana coming from inside.

Both occupants were asked to exit the car, and a search was conducted on their persons. Police said a bulky plastic bag containing leaves, seeds, and stems was found in Salul’s possession.

The investigation then led police to Salul’s home at La Jalousie, where a further search uncovered several small ziplock bags containing more cannabis hidden in a chest of drawers.

When told of the offence, Salul allegedly responded under caution: “Sir, I does hustle da lil weed.”

He was promptly arrested and escorted to the Leonora Police Station, along with the suspected narcotics.

At the station, police confirmed that the cannabis found on Salul’s person weighed 30 grams, while the quantity retrieved from his home amounted to 482 grams.

Salul remains in custody pending charges as investigations continue.
