The 8% salary increase for government workers this year should be paid before the General and Regional elections on September 1, 2025, according to Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.
Jagdeo said he “hoped” this increase would be paid before the elections during a People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) press conference on Thursday.
“I hope (the Minister of Finance) Ashni Singh pays it before. It does not make sense you paying the public servants after the elections, so I think it will be paid before,” Jagdeo said in reponse to a question posed.
Per a multi-year agreement signed last year between the Government of Guyana and the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU), all public servants are to receive their 8% increase this year.
