National U-19 cricketers off to eight-team regional tournament in St. Kitts

Guyana’s national Under-19 cricket team is off to St. Kitts to compete in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under-19 Cricket Championship, which runs from July 3-24.

The Guyana Cricket Board, in a press statement on Monday, said: “The team has had a packed build-up, including inter-county trials and two weekend camps in Essequibo. Now, with the journey underway, their sights are firmly set on regional glory. Guyana last won the tournament in 2018.”

 The squad reads: Jonathan Van Lange (captain), Romario Ramdehol (vice-captain), Rampersaud Ramnauth, Parmeshwar Ram, Romeo Deonarain, Sachin Balgobin, Afraz Ali Budhoo, Shamar Apple, Salim Khan, Riyad Latif, Golcharran Chulai, Nityanand Mathura, Bruce Vincent and Micah Amsterdam.

The standby players are: Wavell Allen, Neeran Bani, Sanjay Algoo, Jayden Dowlin, Shiloh Adams, Matthew Pottaya and Ronaldo Jeffery.

The team will be under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Garvin Nedd and manger Nazeer Mohammed.

The tournament will feature eight teams- Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Windward Islands and two from the USA.

July 3- vs Barbados at Elquemedo Willett Park, Nevis
July 6- vs USA 1 at  St. Paul’s Sports Complex, Basseterre
July 9- vs Jamaica at Conaree Sports Club, Conaree
July 12- vs Windward Islands at St. Mary’s Park, Cayon
July 15- vs Leeward Islands at Conaree Sports Club, Conaree
July 18- vs USA 2 at St. Mary’s Park, Cayon
July 21- vs Trinidad and Tobago at Elquemedo Willett Park, Nevis
July 24- Final (Conaree), Third Place (St. Mary’s Park), Fifth Place (St. Paul’s Sports Complex) and Seventh Place (Elquemedo Willett Park)
