Archibald, Baird among standout performers at AAG Senior Nationals

The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) wrapped up its 2025 National Senior Championships on Sunday, following three days of intense competition at the National Track and Field Centre.

The championships showcased a blend of established talent and rising stars, culminating in several outstanding performances.

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) proved to be the dominant force, securing numerous titles across track and field events.

One of the highlights of the final day was the men’s 200m, where Shamar Horatio led a clean sweep for GDF, clocking an impressive 20.72 seconds.

Teammates Akeem Stewart (20.94s) and Ezekiel Newton (20.96s) followed closely, demonstrating GDF’s strength in sprinting.

Middle-distance specialist Simeon Adams (GDF) also shone, winning the men’s 800m in 1:52.20.

He later teamed up with Kenisha Phillips, Joshua Lam, and Keliza Smith to secure victory for GDF in the mixed 4x400m relay with a time of 3:32.31.

In field events, Leslain Baird added another gold for GDF in the men’s javelin with a winning throw of 70.35m.

While GDF’s Micai Washington took silver in the long jump with a leap of 7.53m, the gold medal was claimed by Police Progressive’s Emmanuel Archibald with a spectacular jump of 7.96m.

Archibald’s victory in the long jump was part of a strong showing for the Police Progressive Sports Club.

Annalisa Redmond won the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.93m, supported by teammates Leoni Adams and Amrist Hector. Aaliyah Moore secured another gold for the Police in the women’s 800m, finishing in 2:02.69.

GDF’s women athletes also displayed top form. Keliza Smith triumphed in the women’s 200m with a time of 23.70 seconds, ahead of teammate Kenisha Phillips (24.00s) and Police’s Tianna Springer (24.02s).

Smith also contributed to GDF’s victory in the mixed 4x400m relay.

Anisha Gibbons added another field event gold for GDF with a commanding 46.40m throw in the women’s javelin.

Earlier in the championships, the second day saw Emmanuel Archibald (Police Progressive) deliver a blistering, wind-assisted 9.98 seconds (+2.4 m/s) to win the men’s 100m final, ahead of GDF’s Akeem Stewart (10.11s) and Ezekiel Newton (10.21s).

Tianna Springer (Police) continued her impressive form, clinching gold in the women’s 100m in 11.52s.

GDF’s Simeon Adams also secured the men’s 400m title in 48.70s, while Aliyah Abrams cruised to victory in the women’s 400m in 53.73s.

The opening day saw Jelesa Wright (GDF) win the women’s 5000m in 20:33.50, and GDF’s Odida Parkinson take the men’s 5000m title in 16:16.15.

GDF’s Jemaine Simmons also dominated the men’s shot put with a throw of 16.61m, while Shonette Freeman (Police Progressive) won the women’s shot put with 10.77m.

In the triple jump, Natricia Hooper (GDF) took gold in the women’s event with 13.74m, and Stefon Roach (Mercury Fast Laners) won the men’s title with 15.90m.

Other notable performances throughout the championships included Odida Parkinson’s hard-fought victory in the men’s 10,000m, edging out Police’s Royston Fordyce.

Police athletes Eron Leitch and Gabriel Lim secured silver and bronze in the men’s javelin.

The AAG commended all athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators for contributing to a successful and competitive National Senior Championships.
