Eight Guyanese qualify for Junior CASA finals

Guyana will have strong representation in the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Junior Championship finals in the Cayman Islands, with eight young players qualifying for seven gold medal matches.

Tuesday will see a busy day of finals for the Guyanese contingent, starting with Zion Hickerson in the Under-11 boys’ category.

Hickerson put in a strong performance to defeat Zavin Garrick and will now face the top seed, Savante Padmore from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, at 9:30 local time (10:30 in Guyana).

Shortly before that, at 9:00 local time (10:00 in Guyana), Alexis Arjoon will contest the Under-11 girls’ final against top-seeded Barbadian Danielle Benn.

Arjoon earned her place with a convincing victory over fellow Barbadian Ella Griffith.

Guyana’s Ella Fernandes will battle Griffith for the bronze medal in the same age group.

Ethan Bulkan will aim for gold in the Under-13 boys’ division when he takes on Bermuda’s Mason Smith, the number-one seed.

Their match is scheduled for 10:30 local time (11:30 in Guyana).

In the Under-15 boys’ final, Justin Ten Pow will feel confident as he prepares to play top seed Ben Shepherd from Barbados.

Ten Pow reached this stage after a comfortable win against Adriano Vera.

Guyana will also have a finalist in the Under-15 girls’ category, with Kaylee Lowe set to face Caymanian Kaylee Pierre, the number-two seed.

Lowe, who is the top seed, impressed in her semi-final, defeating Olivia Watts of Barbados in straight games.

The Under-17 girls’ final will guarantee a gold medal for Guyana, as Avery Arjoon and Emily Fung-A-Fat have progressed to the showdown.

Both players were dominant in the round-robin stage, topping their respective groups.

Finally, Louis DaSilva will face a tough challenge in the Under-19 boys’ final against Seth Thong, Trinidad and Tobago’s number-one seed.

DaSilva showed resilience in his semi-final, returning from a set down to secure his place.

Their match is scheduled for 13:30 local time (14:30 in Guyana).
