Beloved father and ‘prankster’ dies after Rupert Craig Highway collision

A family is mourning the loss of Leon Sikandar, who tragically died following a three-vehicle collision along the Rupert Craig Highway on Tuesday morning.

In an emotional Facebook post, Leon’s sister, Angelina, confirmed the heartbreaking news early Wednesday.

“Yesterday, I got devastating news, our brother, through no fault of his own, was involved in a 3-vehicle accident. I saw the videos circulating… I saw him. I read the cruel comments too and every part of me wanted to respond. But I stayed quiet. I stayed hopeful,” she wrote.

Holding onto hope through the night, Angelina said she and her family prayed for good news. “But this morning, I woke up to the worst news of all… my brother passed away,” she shared.

Leon leaves behind his “beautiful little boys”, his “loyal, loving wife”, devoted sisters, nieces and “a circle of family and friends who will never forget him.”

Known as a lively spirit and a “true prankster”, Angelina described her brother as someone “always laughing, always full of life,” adding, “Right now, all we want is to believe that this is one of his jokes that any moment now, he’s going to pop out laughing. But this time, it’s real. And it hurts in ways I can’t explain.”

The fatal accident occurred around the vicinity of the University of Guyana Access Road, East Coast Demerara. According to Police Headquarters, Leon Sikandar was driving motor car #PMM 3778 when another vehicle, driven by Kamel Daniels, reportedly lost control and swerved over the median, crashing into Sikandar’s vehicle, which then collided with a hire car driven by Neil Lewis.

All five persons involved were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by public-spirited citizens. Police confirmed that Sikandar suffered a fractured right arm and was admitted, but sadly succumbed to his injuries. The other drivers and passengers sustained various injuries and are reportedly in stable condition.

Police investigations into the accident continue.

As family and friends struggle to come to terms with the loss, tributes have flooded social media in memory of Leon Sikandar, remembered as a devoted father, husband and brother whose laughter will be deeply missed.
