PPP/C kicks off campaign launch with endorsement from several young candidates

The People’s Progressive Party/ Civic (PPP/C) on Sunday afternoon kicked off its 2025 Elections campaign launch with endorsements from several young people, including Cardiogolist Dr. Mahendra Carpen, economist Roger Rogers, Toshao of Bethany village Sonia Latchman, and former PNC central executive committee member Thandi McAlister.

The theme of their remarks carried the same thread: the PPP’s support for young people is worth a second term in office from September 1, 2025.

McAlister, who spent most her young life with the PNC, said she was asked many times by her former colleagues have asked her why she chose to change her support to the PPP.

She said her response has been the same: “Open your eyes, look around and with a clear conscience, and tell me, ‘Why not?’
Given the massive development across the country, she said the choice is clear, and she urged citizens to vote proudly for the PPP, “for the continuation of progress.”

Dr. Carpen, in his brief remarks, noted that having served 25 years in the health sector, he is impressed with the level of development in this sector in the last five years.

“What I have seen in healthcare in Guyana is unmatched anywhere I have ever seen, the pace of development…this is a shared vision coming from talented leaders…” he told the thousands gathered at Kitty, Georgetown, to witness the launch of the party’s campaign.

Latchman highlighted investments she has seen in the indigenous communities which she said need to continue.

Roger Rogers, who introduced himself as an Economist and former lecturer at the University of Guyana, now a Candidate for the PPP/C, lauded investments in the development of young people.

“My choice to support the PPP can be easily explained but I will highlight one simple important fact: the investment your government has been making and continues to make in the youth.

“The youth is the future of this country and we have invested and will continue to invest in the youth” he said.

Azizi Christiani, from the Essequibo Coast, expressed similar sentiments. Noting that the has seen firsthand this party support young people and people of every ethnic group, he said “this party believes that young people are not just the future but the present and that is why we are getting the opportunity now to lead.”

He was followed by former national cricketer and businessman Steven Jacobs. He added that not only does the party embrace youths and different ethnicities but also shows unity and love to everyone who serves the party.

“We have a decision to make on Sept 1 and let us not worry about personalities, let us ensure we vote for someone with a vision, someone with a plan and someone with a track record,” he shouted, referring to President Irfaan Ali.

Others who took the podium included Vickash Ramkissoon and Mishka White.
