Region One celebrates new roads and jobs with promises to return PPP/C to government

Residents of Region One (Barima-Waini) are witnessing significant development under the PPP/C government, with improvements in infrastructure, job opportunities, education, and healthcare benefiting the community.

This was evident on Wednesday night as a large crowd gathered in the town of Mabaruma for the PPP/C’s campaign launch.

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, headlined the launch, where he reaffirmed the party’s commitment to continued progress.

“The PPP is about consistency, the PPP is people-centred, and you will never see us being individualistic in nature. We are about your community development, your welfare, we are about fixing the issues and problems. We are about coming up with policies and programmes,” Croal said.

Croal outlined key achievements, including the installation of 24-hour electricity and internet access, the deployment of over 2,500 Community Support Officers (CSOs), the distribution of free school textbooks, and improvements in health services.

“We came out from the last government in 2020. This is the same country, this is the same Region One, this is the same Mabaruma and you examine the difference. We are a party of consistency. What we say we will do. We deliver on our commitments.

“Once you are willing to work and you willing to work hard, we will provide the opportunity for you,” Croal said.

Long-time supporter Basil Mendonca expressed pride in the progress made. He has supported the PPP/C since he first began voting.

“I voting for PPP from since I start voting and I proud of meh party and I happy for know what the PPP government doing for us. I see a lot of change.

He also looked forward to further advancements. “Development coming, we getting roads and we even getting we wharf to help with transport and much more things,” he said.

Others who previously supported different parties have switched their loyalty, impressed by the government’s delivery.

Nigel Peters shared, “Since I am a little boy I was with the PNC, but I find the winning party so I stick on to the winning brand.”

He highlighted his personal benefits from government programmes, including the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS), road improvements, and cash grants.

“I have benefited from many things, if I to continue… time won’t allow me to talk.

“I endorse President Ali because he doing just what Guyanese, people like me, want to see — development,” Peters told the News Room.

First-time voter Kim Morgow credited the PPP for creating job opportunities. “PPP has done a lot for me because back in the days there was not like jobs,” she said.

She added, “PPP clear way for us, young people to get jobs. I myself am proud. I have been employed as a community health worker under the PPP. I am very proud and I am willing to give the PPP party my support.”

Croal urged residents to remain engaged and empowered to ensure continued progress.

“When you leave here you must leave here empowered to continue to do more to ensure your party returns to government so that we can continue to see the progress in your region, the communities, and for your next generation,” he said.
