Eden Corbin: Youth voice rising in APNU’s 2025 campaign

Eden Corbin spent many of his formative years in spaces like the Youth Parliament, the University of the West Indies’ Guild of Students, and working his way up in the legal profession. Now, he is one of several young candidates in this year’s election race—and Corbin is ready to bring fresh energy to the local political scene.

The 27-year-old attorney-in-waiting is a member of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), the main party in A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), a coalition of political parties contesting the 2025 elections. If you are wondering whether he is related to Robert Corbin, the former leader of the PNC, the young Corbin says there’s a family connection there, but he is unsure of their exact relationship.

He was introduced to the public at the party’s 2025 elections campaign launch on 6 July, and his intention to represent Guyanese youth has been crystal clear ever since.

“I see myself as someone who desires change, someone who wants to make an impact, and someone who wants to leave something behind for all people—especially the youths… That has always been my platform: to really inspire them and encourage them to be the best that they can be,” Corbin said in an interview with the News Room.

So, how did the young Corbin get into politics and end up on the frontlines of APNU?

It started at home. Corbin told the News Room that his mother, father, and younger sister have always believed he would make a difference in the world. With that support behind him, the rest was up to him.

And he started with youth advocacy—the platform he stands firmly on today.

As a secondary school student and later as a mentor, Corbin became involved in the nascent Youth Parliament initiative. That exposure to the National Assembly—its members, its history, and its inner workings—ignited a political spark in Corbin’s mind.

Then came his sojourn in Trinidad and Tobago, where he began his legal studies and became active in the University of the West Indies Guild of Students. He was elected Chairperson of the International Affairs Committee (IAC), which bears the herculean task of representing regional and international students at the university. While grappling with issues ranging from tuition to regional integration, serving his peers only fuelled his existing passion for politics.

Corbin then spent several years immersed in his legal studies at UWI, the University of Guyana, and the Hugh Wooding Law School. Though focused on academics, the political spark never faded. In fact, it was so evident that several of his mentors predicted he would return to Guyana and enter political life.

That prophecy was seemingly fulfilled when Corbin returned to Guyana earlier this year. The spark, perhaps, had become a fire.

Soon after his return, Corbin had a conversation with APNU’s Presidential Candidate and leader of the PNCR, Aubrey Norton. It was a short but frank discussion, Corbin said, that led to him being considered for APNU’s list of candidates for the 2025 General and Regional Elections.

It was an offer Corbin deeply considered.

“… if we’re successful in the elections, I may not be able to go into private practice the way I would’ve wanted to. But the other fact that’s balancing that out is that I can actually make a change in my country in a more meaningful way—at the highest possible level,” Corbin reflected.

But it wasn’t merely a matter of balancing his professional ambitions. This was a golden opportunity for Corbin to play a role in youth representation and engagement—something he believes is sorely needed for Guyanese youth. How could he say no?

“To allow that opportunity to go through the window—I would be a hypocrite. I wouldn’t be representing the youths,” he declared.

He seized the chance to represent Guyanese youth with the party he believes is best placed to usher in a new era of development. And since then, Corbin’s fiery energy has become a key fixture of APNU’s election campaign.

He is often seen with a mic in hand and a cap on his head, rallying supporters. And when he’s not on stage or involved in community outreach, Corbin is buried under legal texts, striving to give the best representation to the clients of the Dexter Todd and Associates law firm. He will soon be admitted to the local Bar to practise law in Guyana.

As his legal and political careers take off, the young Corbin hopes to prove to the Guyanese public that he is fully committed to the task of representing them well.
