Guyana’s top junior badminton players are set to represent the nation in a pair of international competitions this month.
A team will first travel to Paraguay before traveling to Barbados for a second tournament.
A team of four will compete at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción, Paraguay, from August 10 -13.
The squad includes Frank Waddell, Jonathan Debidin, Mishka Beharry, and Leshaunte Berkley, who will all feature in the Singles and Mixed Doubles events.
National Senior Men’s Champion Akili Haynes will be the team’s player-coach and manager.
Following the conclusion of the Pan Am Games, Haynes and the team will travel to Bridgetown, Barbados, where they will be joined by Ruel Rambiriche for the CAREBACO Junior Team Tournament from 14 to 17 August.
Frank Waddell will not participate in this competition due to age restrictions.

In Barbados, the Guyanese team will face regional opponents in the Mixed Team Event, which has five categories: boys’ Singles, Girls’ Singles, Boys’ Doubles, Girls’ Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
The CAREBACO Individual Championships will follow from August 19-23, with another strong contingent joining the squad.
Nkosi Beaton coaches the new additions, who include Yonneil Benjamin, Christopher Jordan, Joel Rambiriche, Anjaneysa Godette, and Liam Brumell. They will all compete in the U11 to U19 age categories.
