Record-breaking Raekwon Noel wins historic bronze at Junior Pan Am Games

Guyanese swimmer Raekwon Noel has made history by winning a bronze medal at the Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay.

The swimmer broke his national record in the men’s 200m butterfly with a time of 1:59.46s, lowering his previous best of 1:59.89.

Brazil’s Gustavo Francisco won the gold medal, setting a new Games record with a time of 1:58.95. His compatriot Gabriel Moura took the silver in 1:59.45.

Noel is the first Guyanese swimmer to win a medal at the Junior Pan American Games.

He is the second Guyanese athlete overall to earn a medal at the event since its inception in 2021, following Chantoba Bright’s silver in the women’s triple jump at the previous Games in Cali, Colombia.

The competition is not over for Noel, who will compete alongside Shareefah Lewis, Paul Mahaica Jr., and Ariel Rodrigues in the mixed 4x100m relay. Before that, Noel is also scheduled to swim in the heats for the 100m butterfly on Monday from 08:45h.
