New schools coming to Reg. 1

Education Minister Priya Manickchand visited Region One (Barima- Waini) over the weekend and was provided with a progress update on the Waramari Secondary school as it nears completion.

Minister Manickchand, during the site visi,t said this school is expected to be commissioned soon by President Dr. Irfaan Ali.

“… it’s for the villages of Waramuri but also for the children so they wouldn’t have to walk through mud to get to school,” Minister Manickchand said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Education Officer responsible for Amerindian and Hinterland Development, Marti DeSouza accompanied the minister to her Region One outreach and told residents of Manawarin Village that a new secondary school will also be built there.

“Something very big is happening in Manawarin Village very, very shortly, and I can tell you it’s one that you will benefit from greatly,” DeSouza said.

This new school will be the sixth one to be built in the Region. It will provide access to secondary education for the following communities: Plimpla Creek, Takatu, Mud Creek, Cabacali, St. Nicholas Mission, Central Manawarin, Burahara, Sheepara, Green Field, Mount Zion and Arawansa.
