Cocaine charges: 5 years jail, $8.1M fine; two others remanded

Three people, including a woman, appeared before Magistrate George on Wednesday at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on cocaine trafficking charges.

Joel Leander, Satrohan Hardowar, and Lorna Scott-Williams were jointly charged with the possession of 5.442 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Hardowar and Scott-Williams both pleaded not guilty and were remanded to prison pending trial. Leander admitted to the charge and was sentenced to five years imprisonment and fined GY $8,163,000.

Scott-Williams faced an additional charge for the possession of 3.592 kilograms of cocaine for trafficking. She pleaded not guilty and was again remanded to prison.

Scott-Williams is no stranger to the courts. In 2015, she, her husband Gordon “Monkey Harry” Williams, and three others were charged with trafficking 3.840 kilograms of cocaine and 36.5 grams of cannabis. Two years later, in 2017, the couple was convicted.
