Woman dies weeks after collision with speeding Russian Embassy vehicle

Ava Braithwaite, 64, died on Saturday after being involved in an accident earlier this month at Ogle, East Coast Demerara. Police Headquarters reported that the accident occurred on August 5, 2025 and involved a car owned by the Russian Embassy in Guyana, a minibus and Braithwaite’s car.

At the time of the accident, the Diplomatic vehicle was being droben by Nikolai Golovinov, a 41-year-old resident of Kitty, Georgetown, while the minibus was driven by David Daniels, a 46-year-old resident of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara.

According to reports, Daniels was proceeding east along the northern carriageway in the northern driving lane, while Braithwaite was proceeding in the same direction behind the minibus when the Diplomatic Vehicle #DPL 9-01, which was proceeding in the same direction at a fast rate, collided into the rear of Braithwaite’s car.

As a result of the collision, the car spun and collided with a light pole on the median. The Diplomatic vehicle further collided with Daniels before ending up at the Ogle intersection.
Due to the collision, all the vehicles received extensive damage, and a light pole was uprooted from the median.

Braithwaite was admitted as a patient in the critical bay suffering from head and chest injuries.

The Russian Diplomatic vehicle was escorted to Sparendaam Police Station along with the driver, where a breathalyser test was conducted, and zero percent of alcohol was detected on his breath. The driver was processed and sent away.

On Saturday, at about 12:28 hours, Braithwaite succumbed to her injuries.
