Guyana’s Malachi Austin is set to compete for a spot on the podium at the Junior Pan American Games after qualifying for the men’s 400m final.
The 2025 CARIFTA U-20 400m silver medalist earned his spot with a third-place finish in his semifinal heat, clocking a time of 46.69 seconds.
Austin will be running out of lane three in the final.
He will likely need to surpass his personal and season-best time of 46.29s to earn a medal, as several other finalists, including Jamaica’s Jasauna Dennis (45.73s), have posted faster qualifying times.
The 400m final is scheduled for 18:20h.
In addition to Austin, Keliza Smith will compete in the women’s 200m semifinal, and Shemar Horatio will race in the men’s 200m semifinal.
Guyana has already secured two bronze medals at the Games, thanks to swimmer Raekwon Noel and the 4x400m Mixed Relay team.
