Security guard stabbed to death after allegedly abusing female colleague, slapping teen guard

Police are probing the stabbing death of 63-year-old security guard, Paul Devonish, who was killed Monday evening following an altercation with a female colleague.

The suspect, 29-year-old Sheriff Security guard, Nicosie Clement, is in custody after admitting to stabbing Devonish during a scuffle on Barrack Street, Kingston, around 18:30 hrs on August 18.

According to police, the incident stemmed from an earlier confrontation in which Devonish, also attached to Sheriff Security, allegedly verbally abused a female guard at Teleperformance, Kingston, Georgetown and seized her cellphone. When an 18-year-old guard intervened, urging him to return the phone, Devonish reportedly slapped the teen twice in the face.

The young guard later reported the matter to his mother, who was stationed nearby with Clement. Hours later, Clement accompanied the teen to collect his belongings when they encountered Devonish, who approached them on an electric bike. Devonish reportedly threatened the teen again, telling him he was lucky he did not “box off” his head, according to the police report.

Police said Clement confronted Devonish about taking advantage of the teenager, which led to a heated exchange. Devonish allegedly challenged her, asking if she was there to represent the teen, before a scuffle broke out.

During the tussle, Clement pulled a knife from her pants pocket and stabbed Devonish in his left upper thigh. He collapsed on the roadway shortly after and was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Clement later told investigators she discarded the knife in the nearby Lamaha trench before returning to her workplace and then to the teen guard’s home, where she was arrested. Police said Clement has since confessed to the stabbing, and statements have been taken from several eyewitnesses as investigations continue.
