President Irfaan Ali on Friday dismissed allegations in a Carter Center pre-election report that the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) is using State resources to campaign for the general and regional elections.
Speaking with reporters after observing the voting process at Base Camp Ayanganna in Georgetown, the President reminded that the PPP/C held multiple fundraisers across the country. So, there is no need to use State resources.
“We are the incumbent, and these accusations are always there.
“Our party might have been the only party that had so many fundraisers. So, we’ve been able to raise enough resources with the love and support of the people, supporters and members.
“We have been able to raise enough resources to efficiently carry out our campaign and our work for these elections. So, there is no need for State resources, and State resources have not been deployed to support our campaign,” the Head of State said.
Ali is seeking re-election at the September 1 polls; members of the Disciplined Forces are voting on Friday ahead of those polls.
