The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) marked the 100th anniversary of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) with a successful tournament aimed at fostering the next generation of chess enthusiasts.

Held on July 20th at the School of the Nations, the event featured both Rapid and Blitz tournaments coinciding with World Chess Day.

The competition saw a vibrant mix of over 50 participants, including seasoned players and promising newcomers from schools like St. Joseph’s High and Bishops High.

The event also contributed to FIDE’s global effort to break the Guinness World Record for the most chess games played in 24 hours.

FIDE certificates, signed by President Arkady Dvorkovich, were awarded to all participants in recognition of their contribution to this historic attempt.
