The Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) celebrated the successful completion of a road cycling training camp held at the UCI Continental Development Satellite in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.
The intensive programme, running from June 30th to July 8th, aimed to elevate the skills and performance of promising regional cyclists.
Three talented Guyanese cyclists – Alexander Leung, Sidwell Sandy, and Aaron Newton – participated in the camp. Under the guidance of top UCI coaches and experts, they underwent targeted training sessions to enhance their endurance, speed, and tactical awareness in road cycling.
Leung, known for his exceptional stamina, honed his long-distance riding capabilities and race strategies.
Newton, with his explosive sprinting, focused on optimizing his finishing bursts and overall speed.
Sandy, a rising talent, concentrated on building strength and refining his climbing techniques.
The UCI Satellite provided a world-class training ground, equipped with cutting-edge facilities and resources.
The camp offered a comprehensive curriculum encompassing:
Endurance Training: Long-distance rides and drills to build stamina.
Speed Workouts: Sprint drills and interval training to improve speed.
Tactical Sessions: Race simulations and strategic planning.
Technical Skills: Bike handling, cornering, and climbing techniques.
Nutrition and Recovery: Guidance on proper nutrition and recovery methods for peak performance.
Knowledge Sharing and Camaraderie
The camp fostered a spirit of camaraderie among participants as they shared knowledge with experienced coaches and interacted with fellow cyclists from various countries.
The GCF expressed their sincere appreciation to Wayne DeAbreu of the Continental Cycling Club and the UCI Satellite for hosting the camp and providing such an exceptional training experience.
