Guyanese off-spinner Jairam Wahid is aiming to build on the exposure he received by playing for the first time in the just concluded fifth edition of the Dream11 T10 Blast in Trinidad and Tobago.
The 32-year-old, who has been playing club cricket in the twin-island republic for the last decade, was selected by eventual runners-up Soca Kings, rubbing shoulders with the likes of seasoned professionals Sunil Narine and Lendl Simmons and rising talents Kadeem Alleyne and Terrance Hinds.
All-rounder Akshaya Persaud, who also turned out for Soca Kings, was the other Guyanese in the tournament.

Though Wahid was selected for only one game, which was unfortunately rained out, the cricketer who originally hails from Cove and John, East Coast Demerara, highlighted the gains that were made in terms of elevating his career.
“My experience at this year’s Dream11 T10 Blast has been a great and memorable one,” he told News Room Sport.
Soca Kings, playing their third T10 Blast championship game, stumbled at the final hurdle, losing by six wickets to Steelpan Players in a rain-affected game.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity which I have learnt from and grown into being a better cricketer. I was lucky to be selected on a team that consisted of some of the best professional cricketers in Trinidad.”
“From them I got great advice and tips in cricket such as how to bowl better and how to keep my calm in the death overs of a match to secure a win. I’m hoping that being part of this tournament will open more doors for me in my cricketing career and I hope to be back in next year’s edition of the Dream11 T10 Blast.”
Wahid’s desire to play more top-flight cricket in Trinidad was fulfilled as he has now been picked by North Side Further Stars for the ongoing North Zone T20 tournament.
The 10-team tournament will conclude on August 3 with matches being played at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex.
Games are carried live on FLOW Sports.
