Police arrest Linden man with over 55lbs of marijuana

Police in Linden made a significant drug-related arrest early Monday morning,  following a dramatic chase near the Wismar Bridge.

At around 01:00 hrs, two police officers on routine mobile patrol noticed three men riding two unmarked XR motorcycles heading west across the Wismar Bridge. As the officers attempted to stop the motorcycles, the suspects abruptly stopped their vehicles and jumped off. In a bid to evade capture, the men threw two large plastic bags into the river.

Despite their attempts to flee, police managed to apprehend one of the suspects, later identified as Keron Layne, a 23-year-old unemployed resident of One Mile Extension, Wismar. The officers quickly retrieved the discarded bags from the river. Upon opening the bags in Layne’s presence, they discovered a substantial amount of cannabis.

The total weight of the cannabis was measured at 25.2 kg (55.556 lbs). Layne was arrested and transported to the Wismar Police Station, where the substance was officially weighed and logged. He remains in custody as authorities prepare to file charges and continue their investigation into the incident.
