In a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation on Thursday, police officers from the Special Branch headquarters successfully uncovered 10.55lb (4.79 kilograms) of marijuana at Laparkhan Wharf.
The operation took place at the Laparkhan Shipping Company’s wharf, located at the intersection of Lombard and Broad Streets in Charlestown. Officers conducted a thorough search of a blue jumbo barrel that had been sealed and shipped from Junior Skeet, based in Brooklyn, New York, USA, to Clive James of Durban Street, Lodge.
During the search, which was carried out in the presence of a 32-year-old Customs Officer, nine sealed transparent plastic bags marked with the words ‘California TRACKSTR’ were found. These bags, which were hidden among clothing and sneakers, contained a mixture of leaves, seeds, and stems, suspected to be cannabis.
The barrel, along with the suspected drugs, was transported to the Crime Laboratory at CID Headquarters, where it was processed, photographed, and weighed. The total weight of the suspected marijuana was confirmed to be 10.55lb (4.79 kilograms).
The narcotic substance has been placed in separate evidence bags, sealed, and marked for further analysis at the Forensic Laboratory.
Meanwhile, the barrel containing the clothing has been secured at the Ruimveldt Police Station for safekeeping. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter, with checks being made for Clive James, the recipient of the shipment.
