Motorcyclist, 43, dies in East Canje accident 

Laikram Bandine, a 43-year-old motorcyclist, died in an accident along Garrison Road, East Canje, Berbice on Sunday.

Police Headquarters reported that a Bandine was reportedly riding his motorcycle (#SLP2) at about 22:20 hrs Sunday when he collided with a motor car (#PAF 5919) driven by Ravindra Stanley. the 43-year-old Deputy Police Commander for Region Six.

It was noted that the motor car was traveling south along the eastern driving lane of Canje Public Road at a normal speed. The driver reportedly signaled left to make a turn onto Garrison Road, located on the eastern side of the Public Road. While on Garrison Road, Badine allegedly lost control of the motorcycle causing the machine to fall onto the eastern grass parapet before colliding with the left rear fender of Stanley’s car.

Stanley reportedly summoned the Police soon after.

The motorcyclist sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body. At the time of the accident, Police said the motorcyclist was not wearing a safety helmet.

He was picked up in a semi-conscious state by porters from the New Amsterdam Hospital and then transported to New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.

His body is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, Stanley underwent a breathalyser test, which registered a reading of zero.

The car and motorcycle have been lodged at the New Amsterdam Police Station for examination. Investigations continue.
