A new era for nine-ball pool in Guyana is about to dawn as the Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey & CSAG National Nine-Ball Championship will commence on April 12.
This event is poised to be the country’s largest-ever nine-ball ranking tournament, signaling a significant step forward for the cue sport.
Organised by the Cue Sports Association (Guyana) Inc. (CSAG), the championship aims to elevate and promote the standard of nine-ball play nationwide.
The faster-paced and arguably more spectacular nature of 9-ball, emphasising shot-making, kicking, and jump shots, is expected to bring a new level of excitement to players and spectators alike, offering a different dynamic than the more traditional 8-ball game.
Players will be fiercely competing for crucial ranking points throughout the tournament, which will contribute to their overall standings at the end of the year.
The format will be an engaging double-elimination system, coupled with a longer race format designed to truly test each participant’s skill and ability.
The championship will unfold over three weekends, with matches being hosted at three prominent pool venues: Sunil and Son Pool Bar, Embassy American Style Sports Bar, and Suraj Sports Bar.
A packed schedule of over 60 matches is anticipated, with the stakes rising significantly as the tournament progresses.
The prize pool is substantial, adding another layer of intensity to the competition.
The eventual champion will receive a remarkable $200,000, while the runner-up will pocket a significant $150,000.
Third and fourth-place finishers will each receive a commendable $75,000.
Furthermore, players finishing fifth through eighth place will be rewarded for their efforts, each taking home $25,000.
The grand finals are scheduled for Sunday, May 4th, 2025.
The championship has secured significant backing, with Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey headlining as the title sponsor.
The event also enjoys valuable supporting contributions from Websource Guyana, Global Imaging Services, Andy’s Auto Spares, Mandy Mangru, The Embassy American Style Sports Bar, Suraj Sports Bar, and Sunil & Son Pool Bar.
