President Irfaan Ali on Saturday heaped praise on Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, hailing him as a leader who has shaped the lives of many young Guyanese, saying Jagdeo is the symbol of the governing People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
“This man has shaped the life of many young people. He trusted young men and women and gave them the opportunity to lead,” Ali told a gathering of party supporters.
The President said Jagdeo’s leadership was defined by a deep love for the Guyanese people, declaring: “There is no other man in this country, that I know, that loves the people of this country more than him. There is not an ounce of racism, not an ounce of ego or an ounce of arrogance (in him). He is the symbol of his party.”
Ali, speaking on behalf of the PPP’s General Secretary, offered gratitude for Jagdeo’s “service to this country,” adding that “in life, we must give honour where honour is due.”
He stressed that any successes achieved by his administration were rooted in the sacrifices and struggles that preceded it.
“Anything we have achieved and everything was because of your struggle. I am only your servant,” he said to Jagdeo.
He also thanked the Prime Minister and every Cabinet member along with their families.
The President also used the occasion to pay tribute to his own family and the families of those who have supported the party’s cause.
