The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) has pledged a significant financial boost to its national bodybuilding team as they prepare for the 52nd Central American & Caribbean Bodybuilding and Body Fitness Championships in St. Lucia.
A nine-member squad will represent Guyana at the championships, which are scheduled to run from September 24 to 28.
The GOA’s contribution of $1,100,000 will assist the team as it competes against some of the region’s best bodybuilders.
GOA President Godfrey Munroe officially presented the sponsorship cheque to Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF) President Roger Callender at Olympic House in Liliendaal.
The funding is specifically earmarked to support the team’s participation, with the athletes vying for top honours on the regional stage.
Last year, Guyana flexed its muscle as the host nation for the 51st Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding Championships, winning an impressive 27 medals at Sunday’s conclusion at the National Cultural Centre.
Eleven of the medals were gold, nine silver, and seven bronze, while the proverbial ‘cherry on top’ was Emmerson Campbell, winning a prized International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB) pro card in the Men’s Physique category.
