Fmr. national cyclist dies in motorcycle accident

Alanzo Greaves, a former national cyclist, died in a motorcycle accident on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, late Wednesday night.

Greaves, 36, of Gordon Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was riding a red, white, and black Ducati motorcycle (#CH 5222) at about 23:30 hrs Wednesday.

Police Headquarters said the man was speeding along the eastern side of Mandela Avenue and was not wearing his helmet. He lost control of the motorcycle in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens, causing it to veer in a south-eastern direction, where the front wheel came into contact with a heap of mud that was on the extreme eastern edge of the road beyond the continuous white line.

Greaves subsequently sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the accident scene and arrived shortly after. The injured motorcyclist was examined by Dr Walcott and pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Further investigations are ongoing.
