Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips was sworn in on Monday afternoon, serving his second term as President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s right-hand man.
Phillips served as Prime Minister of Guyana from 202o to 2025 and will serve again in this capacity following the re-election of President Ali and the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C).
For Dr. Ali, PM Phillips provides stability and leadership in the new administration.
“His name is synonymous with duty and public service. When called to serve, he has never faltered. He embodies the spirit of discipline, loyalty, and steadfast commitment,” President Ali said after the retired Brigadier was sworn in.
He added, “He brings years, indeed decades, of selfless service to the people of Guyana, always placing Guyana above self.”
Before serving as Prime Minister, Phillips was the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Chief of Staff from 2013 to 2016. He served in the army for about four decades.
Dr. Ali was sworn in on Sunday. Alongside the Prime Minister, Bharrat Jagdeo was sworn in as Vice President on Monday.
