Annandale man shot after confronting Police with cutlass during arrest

 

A 33-year-old man from Sand Reef, Annandale, East Coast Demerara, is hospitalised after he was shot by Police late Tuesday night when he resisted arrest and confronted ranks with a cutlass.

The incident occurred at around 23:00 hrs on September 16, 2025, at Lusignan, E.C.D.

According to Police reports, a Sergeant stationed at the Lusignan Police Outpost received a call from an unknown individual claiming that the suspect, Shafeek Mohamed, was seen exiting a yard with a microwave oven in his possession.

The Sergeant and another rank, who were on foot patrol at the time, responded promptly and observed Mohamed attempting to conceal the appliance. When the ranks shouted and approached him, Mohamed allegedly resisted by pulling a cutlass from his waist and advancing in a hostile manner.

Police said, the Sergeant reportedly warned him to desist, but Mohamed continued advancing. He was subsequently shot in the left thigh.

Mohamed was escorted to the Enmore Regional Hospital where he is admitted in a stable condition.

Police further revealed that Mohamed is wanted for a series of offences committed within the district. Investigations are ongoing.
