Nadria James, a 19-year-old woman from Baramita, North West District is in police custody for the alleged murder of her partner, 20-year-old Kevin Smith.

Police Headquarters in a statement said James reportedly stabbed Smith after she returned home from drinking alcohol. The incident occurred on Thursday at about 17:00hrs.

James and Smith had been living together for about a year in a camp.

She returned to the camp on Thursday and found Smith lying in his hammock.

“When the victim noticed the suspect, he grabbed a cutlass and struck her on the left shoulder and her right hand, which led to her becoming agitated. The suspect then pulled out a handmade knife from her waist and stabbed the victim on the left side of his chest,” Police Headquarters stated.

After he was injured, Smith stumbled out of the camp and collapsed in a patch of bushes. James then went to the Baramita Police Station and reported the incident.

Police officers then accompanied James back to the scene, where they found Smith lying motionless on his back.
