Guyanese company Queensway Security Service Inc. has been confirmed as the official sponsor of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior Super50 Inter-County Cup, set to bowl off on October 11.

The entity’s alignment with the tournament was announced on Thursday morning at a media launch at Herdmanston Lodge in Georgetown.

President of the Guyana Cricket Board Bissoondyal Singh welcomed Queensway Security onboard, and expressed gratitude to Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Qualander for embracing the competition, which will feature Demerara (defending champions), Berbice, Essequibo and a GCB Select XI.

“Queensway Security Services stands as the largest security firm across Guyana, providing a quality service second to none. Their outstanding professionalism, reliability, and commitment to excellence mirror the very values we uphold in Guyanese cricket- discipline, teamwork, and consistency. We are indeed proud to be associated with such a reputable national brand,” Singh told the gathering.

Singh, a Cricket West Indies Director, stressed the importance of the tournament providing a platform for the showcase of local talents where skill, discipline and determination meet opportunity.

“It is here that tomorrow’s stars are born, and where county pride fuels fierce but friendly competition,” the GCB boss reckoned.

“To our players, this is your moment. Play with heart, passion and respect. Represent your county with pride, and remember that consistent performance here can open the door to regional and even international opportunities.”

Qualander said via the sponsorship he is hoping to make a positive impact on the sport, especially amongst the youth population by transporting them across countries to view the games live.

The CEO said tournaments like the Inter-County are important to the development process, as it is from this stage players are considered for national selection, thereby opening the gateway to international cricket.

“Cricket is an integral part of your country; it’s part of our history, our present and I believe it’s going to be a big part of our future,” Qualander told the gathering.

“I’m very happy to be part of this. I think this is what is needed to make sure that we promote cricket going forward.”

Qualander also commended President Irfaan Ali for investing in cricket by building new infrastructure and laying the platform for “economic impetus” in the game.

Preliminary matches will be held at Joe Jagmohan Ground at Hampton Court in Essequibo, Enmore and Lusignan on the East Coast of Demerara and the Number 69 Ground in Berbice.

The final, according to GCB, will be held either at Hampton Court or Albion.

Cricket Operations Manager of the GCB Anthony D’Andrade said the board was deliberate in its effort to take the games to rural communities.

He also highlighted that the bonus points system that was used in the Regional Super50 in 2024 will be implemented for this Inter-County, bringing a new dimension to the tournament.
