Zhuangshui Xu, a 38-year-old Chinese businessman, was robbed by three men on Friday at his Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara supermarket.
Police Headquarters reported that the man was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and about $50,000 worth of phone cards at about 20:44 hrs Friday.
The businessman reportedly told investigators that he was in the supermarket behind the cashier counter, cashing customers, when he observed the suspects entering the supermarket. One of the suspects was dressed in a camouflage hoodie and dark colour pants with a black cloth around his face and armed with a handgun. Another one wore a grey and blue long-sleeve jersey and blue pants with blue cloth around his face and was armed with a knife, while the third suspect was dressed in a long-sleeve blue jersey and dark colour pants with a grey cloth around his face, and was armed with a cutlass.
The businessman said the suspects approached him and demanded that he hand over the cash to them. One of the suspects entered the cashier area and took out the day’s sales from the cash register and placed the cash in a black plastic bag along with the Digicel and GT&T phone cards. The suspects then made good their escape on foot in an unknown direction.
Several persons were questioned, as investigations continue.
