Over 100 delegates, representing 28 nations and key international governing bodies, have gathered in Georgetown this weekend as the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) hosts its XXIII General Assembly and XIII Annual Workshop.
The ongoing two-day summit, held at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre, has the central theme “Charting the Future of Authentic Caribbean Sport. ”
Discussions focus on good governance, collaboration, and sustainable development across the region.
The presence of global and continental leaders underscores the importance of the meetings to the broader international sports movement.
Key figures in attendance include Keith Joseph, President of CANOC; Jimena Saldaña, Secretary General of Panam Sports; Camilo Pérez López Moreira, President of ODESUR; Luis Mejía Oviedo, President of Centro Caribe Sports; and Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport.
Officials from Panam Sports and Commonwealth Sport attended, signaling a coordinated effort to streamline regional pathways and improve financial management standards.
The General Assembly follows a preparatory Olympic Solidarity Financial Management Workshop, which brought together 32 participants from 19 countries.
This preceding session emphasized the focus of the larger summit: building stronger financial governance, transparency, and accountability within Caribbean National Olympic Committees.
The outcomes of this week’s gathering are expected to shape CANOC’s strategy for the upcoming Olympic cycle, ensuring that Caribbean athletes and administrations are better supported in their pursuit of excellence on the global stage.
