Slingerz Racing Stable’s Galo White delivered a sensational performance to finish second in the João Borges Filho Grand Prix – Haras Rio Iguassu (G2), a major component of the 41st Grand Premiere Latin American Cup held at the Gávea Racecourse in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The result cements the Guyanese stable’s status on the South American racing circuit, following a race where the grey horse set a commanding pace against a world-class field.
From the start, Galo White, ridden by Wil Xavier, immediately took the lead, settling into a comfortable rhythm at the front of the pack and maintaining a stable two-length advantage for much of the middle distance.
The true test came in the home stretch. Despite Galo White’s courageous push, the Brazilian mount Tyrion, expertly piloted by jockey João Moreira, unleashed a devastating turn of pace in the final 400 metres. Tyrion edged ahead in a thrilling duel just before the wire, denying Galo White the victory in the Grade 2 event.
Owner Javed Ali expressed immense pride in the result, recognizing the horse’s ability to compete at the highest level.
“Galo White ran a magnificent race. He showed that he belongs among the best in South America,” Ali stated. “To finish second in a race of this calibre, after setting the pace throughout, is what every owner dreams of. This performance is a reflection of the hard work and commitment from our entire team.”
The strong finish builds upon Galo White’s previous international experience this year, including a fifth-place finish at the prestigious Brazil Grande Premio (Grade 1).
This run ensures that the Vergenoegen-based Slingerz Racing Stable is now firmly recognized for its potential to challenge the region’s top stables.
