Ranks of the Guyana Police Force stationed at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint in Regional Division Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) have arrested a 32-year-old man after a quantity of suspected cannabis was discovered during a routine vehicle search on Sunday morning.
According to the Police, the incident occurred around 07:20 hrs when ranks were conducting checks on vehicles passing through the checkpoint. During the search of a motorcar, the officers found what appeared to be narcotics.
The 32-year-old male passenger reportedly admitted to having the substance in his possession. He was immediately informed of the offence committed, arrested, and taken into custody.
The suspected cannabis was weighed in the man’s presence and amounted to 27.6 grams. It was subsequently lodged as evidence.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
