Three GCC batsmen hit hundreds in GCA First-Division run-fest against Transport

  • Lord takes 6-61 for GCC; Hohenkirk misses hundred for TSC

SUMMARY: Transport Sports Club 205 all out from 47 overs (Nehemiah Hohenkirk 46, Ewert Samuels 38, John Persaud 30; Devon Lord 6-61) and 215-4 from 36.3 overs (Jeremiah Hohenkirk 85, Jadon Campbell 59, John Persaud 54; Kishan Singh 2-18) vs Georgetown Cricket Club 379-3 declared from 69 overs (Yeudistir Persaud 121*, Rivaldo Phillips 120, Navindra Persaud 119*; Kevin Ross 2-99)

A total of 799 runs were scored across two days for the loss of just 17 wickets as Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and Transport Sports Club (TSC) played to a high-scoring draw in the lone GISE/Star Party Rental/Trophy Stall First-Division, Two-Day match organised by the Georgetown Cricket Association last weekend.

Playing on familiar turf at ‘Bourda’, three GCC batsmen- opener Navindra Persaud, Rivaldo Phillips and Yeudistir Persaud- piled up hundreds, while Jeremiah Hohenkirk, Jadon Campbell and John Persaud scored fifties for TSC.

In the midst of the run-fest, experienced GCC left-arm spinner Devon Lord, who was shockingly overlooked by the Demerara selectors for the ongoing Inter-County Super50 tournament, picked up a six-wicket haul.

Batting first after winning the toss, TSC made 205 all out from 47 overs with Nehemiah Hohenkirk (46), Ewert Samuels (38) and John Persaud (30) the leading scorers.

Lord was outstanding with the ball, claiming 6-61 off 18 overs.

Replying to the total, GCC slipped to 25-2, losing opener Martin Pestano Belle (11) and Nicholas Shiopersaud (0) cheaply to Kevin Ross.

After that it was all GCC, as opener Navindra Persaud anchored the innings, forging a third wicket stand of 176 with Phillips, and an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 177 with Yeudistir Persaud.

Navindra Persaud’s marathon knock of 119 not out spanned 200 balls and included 12 fours. Phillips made 120 off 118 balls (12x4s, 6x6s), while Yuedistir Persaud blasted an unbeaten 121 from just 76 balls, smashing 12 fours and seven sixes.

For the two Persauds it was their maiden First Division hundred, while it was Phillips’ second.

Batting a second time, TSC reached 215-4 from 36.3 overs when the game was called off.

Jeremiah Hohenkirk cashed in an excellent batting wicket, hitting 85 off 62 balls (5x4s, 7x6s); Jadon Campbell struck six fours and two sixes in 59 off 72, while opener John Persaud made 54 off 44 (7x4s, 1×6).

Kishan Singh took 2-18, while Navindra Persaud crowned a fine weekend with 1-32 and effecting the run out of Hohenkirk.
