Ranks of the Guyana Police Force have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Faynel Brewster, which occurred on Sunday at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
According to police, CCTV footage obtained from the Government’s Smart City Surveillance System revealed that prior to the deadly attack, the victim’s brother had been pursued by two men on a black XR motorcycle. Investigators were able to trace the movements of the suspects both before and after the incident, which provided critical leads in the case.
Following days of intense investigative work, a targeted police operation led by senior officers was conducted at Morcourt Square, East La Penitence, resulting in the arrest of two male suspects, aged 25 and 29 — an operator from Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, and a farmer from Buxton, East Coast Demerara — along with a 25-year-old female vendor from Morcourt Square.
During a search of the premises, police discovered 50 live rounds of 9mm ammunition and a black Honda XR motorcycle, which investigators believe was used in the commission of the crime. The items were seized and lodged as evidence.
All three suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations, as police continue to pursue additional leads.
The Guyana Police Force in a statement assured the public that every effort is being made to bring those responsible to justice, noting that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
