National youth players Emmanuel Lewis and Dave Mohabir held their nerves to lead Transport Sports Club (TSC) to victory over Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in the latest game of the Georgetown City Mayor and Friends Under-17, 100-over competition, organised by the Georgetown Cricket Association.
Playing at home, TSC were set a target of 104, but found themselves in serious trouble at 5-3 with Jarden Glasgow, Mario Singh and Prosper Jacobus all dismissed without scoring.
It took a dogged batting effort from Lewis and Mohabir to stabilise the innings, the pair batting through to give TSC a seven-wicket win in 23.2 overs.
The right-handed Lewis struck five fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 60 off 71 balls, while left-hander Mohabir made 35* off 40 (2x4s, 1×6) in an unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 102.
Dhanesh Persaud took 2-22 and Rivaldo Pereira 1-20.
Earlier, GCC were skittled out for 103 in 32 overs with Pereira (18), Balashankar Narine (15), Shane Shivbarran (15) and Trilok Nanan (12) being the notable scorers.
Bowling for TSC, Afraz Khan took 3-24, Mohabir 2-1 and Reyaz Latif 2-38.
The tournament continues on Sunday (October 26) with Bel Air Rubis playing Everest at the Malteenoes Ground from 09:00h.
The tournament format allows the team batting first a maximum of 55 overs. Should the team batting first be bowled out before the 55 overs, the other team will earn the outstanding overs as well as the remaining 45.
