Man, believed to be mentally ill, vandalises two New Amsterdam banks

Police are investigating an early morning incident on Sunday in which a man, believed to be suffering from a mental illness, damaged the property of two commercial banks along Strand Road, New Amsterdam.

According to information reaching the News Room, the suspect first went to Scotia Bank, where he used a metal object to shatter the building’s front glass.

He then proceeded a short distance away to Republic Bank, where he allegedly damaged both automated teller machines (ATMs) and the front access door glass.

Police patrols are currently conducting searches for the suspect.

Crime scene investigators and other ranks are on location processing evidence.
