Two arrested after Police find 4.3kg ganja in speaker box at Port Kaituma

Police ranks stationed at Port Kaituma in the North West District on Tuesday arrested two men after 4.3 kilograms of suspected cannabis were discovered hidden inside a speaker box during a routine stop and search operation.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the discovery was made around 17:30 hrs when ranks conducted a “snap roadblock” at Four Miles, Port Kaituma. During the exercise, a black Toyota Fielder wagon bearing registration number PAE 4985 was stopped. The vehicle was driven by 20-year-old James Rose, a mixed-race resident of Port Kaituma, with 35-year-old Amerindian, Eon Daniels, as his passenger.

The ranks reportedly informed the men of the purpose of the operation and inquired whether they had any illegal items in their possession. Both men denied having any. However, after being granted permission to search the vehicle, police officers discovered a speaker box containing four parcels wrapped in Scotch tape. The parcels, when opened in the presence of the occupants, were found to contain seeds, leaves, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Upon being cautioned, Rose allegedly told police, “This is Bobby’s weed I’m carrying,” while Daniels claimed, “I’m just a porter… I don’t know anything about this weed.”

The two men were taken into custody and transported to the Port Kaituma Police Station, where the suspected narcotics were weighed and found to amount to 4.3 kilograms. The substance was sealed, marked, and lodged as investigations continue.
