Businesswoman arrested after nabbed with cocaine, cannabis

A 62-year-old businesswoman of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was detained by Police after suspected cocaine and cannabis were discovered in her possession during a search at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint on Sunday.

Police Headquarters said the discovery was made at about 08:28 hrs by ranks who were on duty when motor pickup, driven by a 38-year-old man of Byderabo Road, Bartica, approached the checkpoint.

During a search, Police said, a multicoloured bag that the businesswoman had around her neck was searched and it contained several parcels with suspected cocaine. There were also other parcels containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

She was subsequently arrested. The suspected cocaine weighed 261 grams, while the cannabis weighed 102 grams. Both were placed in transparent plastic evidence bags, sealed, marked, and lodged. The woman remains in custody as investigations continue.
