Guyana’s players at the Caribbean Senior Badminton Championship in Trinidad and Tobago enjoyed a good outing on the opening day, the majority of them advancing to the Round of 16 in their respective categories.
Guyana is represented by Akili Haynes, Nkosi Beaton, Priyanna Ramdhani and Mishka Beharry at the tournament, which started on Saturday.
In the Men’s Singles, Akili Haynes won against Kaveer Ramoutar from Trinidad and Tobago (21-11, 24-26, 21-9) in the Round of 64 and advanced to Round of 32 where he defeated Dante Horner (21-18, 21-17) from Trinidad.
He will next play an opponent from Barbados in the Round of 16.
Beaton fell short against Adam Singh of Trinidad (21-9, 18-21, 18-21) in the Round of 64.
In the Women’s Singles, Ramdhani won against Cheyenne Bhola from Trinidad and Tobago (21-4, 21-15) in the Round of 32 to advance to the Round of 16, while Beharry won against Zyah Holder (21-8, 21-11) from Trinidad and Tobago in the Round of 32 to move deeper into the tournament.
In the Men’s Doubles, Haynes and Beaton won against Ethan Jitmansingh and Liam Persad from Trinidad and Tobago (21-10, 21-13). Next up in the Round of 16 would be a clash against the Jamaicans.
In the Mixed Doubles, Haynes and Ramdhani won against Triston Sewdass and Arianna Mansook from Trinidad and Tobago (21-10, 21-8) to remain in contention for the title.
