Lall scorches Group Four; Redford showcases GT3 prowess and Seejatan continues Group Two dominance

Quinlan Lall, Will Redford, and Shan Seejatan delivered spectacular, sweeping performances at the Caribbean Clash of Champions on Sunday.

The trio dominated their respective classes at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) event at South Dakota Circuit.

The day belonged to the clean sweepers, but the sheer pace across multiple categories set the day alight, with the circuit record threatened by both car and bike competitors.

Team CAMS driver Quinlan Lall cemented his status as the man to beat in Group Four, taking all three chequered flags in a faultless display.

Lall had sent a clear warning in qualifying the day prior, clocking a blistering 01:15.849s lap, which put him within touching distance of the outright track record of 01:15.534s, held by British bike rider Daniel Linfoot.

While his fastest race time on Sunday was a still-rapid 01:17.218s, Lall’s consistency was key, as he fended off intense competition, particularly from teammate Mohan Rangasammy (P2 in Race One, P3 in Race Three) and Poorandat Boodhoo, who secured two second-place finishes in the KTM X-Bow.

GT3 debuts in Guyana

Perhaps the most compelling narrative of the day was the arrival of 20-year-old British native Will Redford.

Racing a new Porsche for local outfit AJM Enterprise in the newly introduced GT3 series, Redford was an instant star, winning all three races on his debut.

Redford’s raw pace was staggering. He clocked a best lap of 01:16.028s, just fractions of a second slower than the quickest time recorded by a two-wheel competitor.

He was embroiled in a tight two-man battle with local veteran Mark Vieira for the honours.

Redford took the first two races, but the battle ended prematurely in the third when Vieira could not finish, allowing the young Brit to cruise to a perfect weekend.

It was to be Trinidadian Franklyn Boodram, a third competitor, but the container with his vehicle has not arrived in the country yet due to shipping delays caused by the hurricanes.

Seejatan secures eighth Group Two title

With enduring consistency, Shan Seejatan confirmed his dominance in the Group Two category, sweeping his class and securing his eighth Group Two championship.

Seejatan’s perfect run in Group Two saw him defeat Rameez Mohamed (P2, Race One) and Nasrudeen Mohamed Jr (P2, Race Two) across the three heats.

The seasoned campaigner didn’t stop there, also featuring prominently in multiple other classes, achieving a win and two second-place finishes in the Vitz Cup A class, and a win and a second place in the Sports Tuner class.

On two wheels, the pace was set by track record holder Daniel Linfoot in Super Stock A, whose fastest lap of 01:16.017s was the quickest of the day overall.

However, the bike class saw split victories, with Linfoot winning Race One, Gregg Black taking Race Two, and local Matthew Vieira finishing on top in Race Three.

As the British riders did not compete in the third race due to leaving for the airport, Vieira started from the back after an incident in the previous race, where he did not finish.

The local champion, powered by ENet, battled his way to the front, ahead of Kevin Persaud, to win the chequered flag.

Elsewhere on the track, Stefan Jeffrey was the initial pace-setter in Group Three with back-to-back wins, but it was Danny Persaud who finished the day strong, taking Race Three.

Meanwhile, Davendra Chattergoon delivered a hat-trick of victories in the Rookie + Female (non-turbo) category, sweeping his races with consistent results.
