Javon Roberts secured a bronze medal in the men’s 800m with a new personal best as part of a successful outing for Guyana at the South American U-20 Championships in Lima, Peru.
Roberts crossed the line in 1:51.98s to claim third place. The gold medal went to the host nation’s Giancarlo Banda (1:50.86s), with Brazil’s Carlos Domingos taking silver in 1:51.64s.
This medal followed an earlier, more prestigious success for the Guyanese team.
Roberts was also part of the quartet stormed to gold in the men’s 4x400m relay.
The 4x400m relay team—comprising Tishawn Easton, Kaidon Persaud, Skylar Charles, and Javon Roberts—clinched the top spot on the podium with a winning time of 3:14.40.
They narrowly edged Colombia (3:14.87) and Brazil (3:14.89) in a tight finish.

In the individual events, Tishawn Easton was the highest finisher in the men’s 400m final, improving on his heat time to clock 48.27s for fifth place.
Brazilian Victor Chaves took the victory with a time of 47.11s. Easton’s teammate, Kaidon Persaud, finished eighth in the final (53.03s) after qualifying with a solid 49.00s in his heat.
Skylar Charles made the final of the men’s 200m, finishing seventh with a time of 21.94s. Charles had run faster in the heats, clocking 21.47s.
The race was won by Colombian Deiner Guaitoto (21.06s).
In other results, Onesi Dunn could not progress past the 100m heat, finishing fifth with a time of 10.71s.
In the field, Rodel Greene narrowly missed a podium spot in the triple jump, finishing fourth with a best effort of 14.93m.
The top three were dominated by Brazil’s Luan Souza (15.76m) and Alexander Cordeiro (15.64m), followed by Deyvid Lara of Ecuador (15.51m).
