The Guyana Police Force has launched an investigation and search operation after an aluminium boat reportedly capsized and sank in the Puruni River, Middle Mazaruni, on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 16:00 hrs while the vessel was travelling from Surie Mouth Backdam to Puruni Landing. According to preliminary reports, the boat, which was carrying four occupants, encountered mechanical difficulties before becoming unbalanced and overturning.
Two of the occupants managed to swim to safety, but the other two — identified as Patrice Grimmond and Evis Robin — remain missing. Their ages and addresses have not yet been confirmed.
Police ranks have since been deployed to the area to conduct investigations and assist with ongoing search and recovery efforts.
Authorities said further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
