Gold miner dies after tree limb falls at Arawak Backdam

The Guyana Police Force is investigating a fatal incident that claimed the life of a gold miner at Arawak Backdam, Cuyuni River, on Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Methuselah Charles, 50, of Friendship Canal, Lower Pomeroon River. According to preliminary investigations, Charles and a coworker were cutting wood for construction when a tree limb reportedly fell, striking him. His coworker, who was some distance away, later found him lying motionless.

Charles was rushed to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending doctor. His body remains at the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

The police have confirmed that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
